Sports Massage can be defined in three terms; pre-event massage, post-event massage, and maintenance massage.
• A pre-event massage helps to stimulate blood flow in body part involved in action; aid recovery from exertion, increase flexibility/range of motion and improve strength and posture. • Post-event massage helps to realign muscles to previous form before sporting match normalizing tissue and blood circulation, while promoting relaxing effects on all systems of the body. • A maintenance massage helps to prevent the possibility of injury and loss of mobility, improve your athletic ability and extend good overall body health. |

Paediatric Tuina Massage, or Chinese infant massage, have been around for thousands of years, originally developed in the East for adults it is designed to treat healthy children and prevent future illness by balancing the flow of energy. Trigger Point Massage is used to treat hyperirritable spots that are cramped, strained or painful. It is called a ‘Trigger Point’ because it can cause a painful response, but a trigger point is more than just a painful nodule, located in a taut band of muscle fibres, it causes referred pain in tissue supplied by nerves. The trigger point is the tenderest spot in the band; using pressure a therapist can locate and deactivate though will likely take more than one massage to get rid of and can be uncomfortable.
How does it work ?
Certain points on the body connect with particular organs and bodily functions. In a healthy, normal functioning body, energy flows freely resulting in a balanced system. When the flow of energy is interrupted from causes such as stress or injury, this energy is reduced, throwing your qi (energy) off balance. By performing acupuncture using the points associated with the particular meridian involved, this qi or balance is restored.

Kinesio Taping is a newly popularized modality that is used by physiotherapists. Kinesio Tape is a hypoallergenic cotton fiber tape with an acrylic heat-activated backing that stretches only along its longitudinal axis.
There are six basic concepts of the Kinesio Taping technique called corrections. They are: mechanical, fascia (fascial), space, ligament/tendon, functional, and circulatory/ lymphatic. Mechanical correction is used for improved stability and biomechanics. Fascia or fascial correction creates or directs movement of the fascia. Space correction are used for decreasing pressure over a target tissue. Tendon/ligament correction decreases stress on a ligament or tendon. Functional correction provides sensory stimulation to either assist or limit a certain range of motion. Circulatory/lymphatic correction helps move lymphatic fluid from more congested to less congested areas. |
